Framatome is a major international player in the nuclear energy market recognised for its innovative solutions and value-added technologies for designing, building, maintaining, and advancing the global nuclear fleet. The company designs, manufactures, and installs components, fuel and instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants and offers a full range of reactor services.
Due to our ongoing growth, we are looking to recruit additional Design Engineers to join our team.
The Design Engineer is responsible of the production of Technical Documentation (2D and 3D Design, Calculation, Bill Of Materials, Specification, Design Review, etc.) in the scope of Framatome Limited.
The role consists in delivering the Design Package through its Lifecycle in accordance with the Framatome Limited processes, procedures and instructions. The Design Engineer has a primary role in supplying the Design Package by ensuring all Requirements are populated, reviewed, analysed and prioritised, from the conceptual phase to the detailed design and release of deliverables.
The Design Engineer is constantly seeking optimisation within the Engineering processes, procedures and instructions and is actively participating in Design Reviews as well as HSE activities in relation to the Design.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
Ensuring Design requirements are defined, gathered, prioritised and followed.
- Reading and understanding of Regulations, Standards and Specifications in order to extract Requirements affecting the Design Package.
- Defining and organising the Design Package production as well as understanding what shall be produced as Deliverables and non-Deliverables.
- Liaison and Coordination with relevant stakeholders interfacing with the Design Package in order to gather all requirements and specificities allowing preliminary and detailed design.
- Liaison with the Engineering / Design Lead to define and prioritise the Design Requirements. Maintaining an auditable record of Design Requirements identified.
- Actively participating in Design Reviews as well as HSE Reviews in order to assess whether a modification requires an impact analysis of the Design Requirements
- Ensuring the solutions identified during Design Reviews are correctly implemented.
- Understand and define HSE requirements & CDM regulations.
Production of Design Deliverables.
- Production of documentation in accordance with Framatome Limited process that is conforming to the Design Requirements, enabling the internal approval as well as acceptance by the Customer when applicable.
- Ensuring the studies for the Design Package follow the relevant Standard.
- Producing concepts accurately and efficiently.
- Proactively seeking best solutions and work autonomously.
- Checking BOM and ensuring the appropriate Industry Standards are used.
- Checking Deliverables against requirements, specifications and applicable Standards.
Producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD Designs
You are
To be considered, the following attributes are required:
- Mechanical / Design Engineering (HND or equivalent)
- CAD software proven experience (preferably SolidWorks) and Document Revision Control
- Manufacturing, Fabrication processes knowledge
- Engineering standards knowledge
- HSE and Quality understanding
Desired Attributes:
- Understanding of ISO Standards for Drafting and Dimensioning
- Design codes & Eurocode 3 knowledge
- Calculation (hand calculation, Excel, etc.) knowledge
- Work in Nuclear Industry
- Pressure Equipment Directive
- FMEA, HAZOP

The role is based in the Design Office in Avonmouth or Cranfield, United Kingdom
Framatome is owned by the EDF Group (80.5%) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI – 19.5%)
In the UK we are currently over 300 strong and our plans are to grow to 400-500 by 2025 through the development our UK nuclear service offerings.
